Why off-shore outsourcing is a bad idea

The moon is Waxing Crescent

Here’s just one example.

You can’t control a foreign workforce with domestic laws. Oh, but that would never be a problem, right? WRONG! Check this story at the Sanfrancisco Gate. So, is it a good idea to let sensitive data go off-shore for entry when it could get released without permission? I don’t think so. After all, I’m not sure I want my medical records open for all to see. And, if you have any kind of psychological issues, would you want records of that to be publicly available? Based on the situation in that article, it could.
So, do you still think off-shore outsourcing is a good idea?

  1. Shipping confidential files and records to any untrusted source (whether in country or out of the country) has to be a local breech of HIPAA by the medical center. We had a similar situation in disposal of computer equipment. Do you really trust this external company to dispose of your confidential data and not sell the hard drives untouched on Ebay? In the end, we did trust extend the boundary of trust once again to another company.

With the transmittal of records to a “cut rate” Pakistani clerical person, did they really think they were getting professional? Would you trust your confidential information to UCSF if you knew your records were being transmitted across the globe to the lowest bidder?
