More self-education at lunch.

This is a little less work oriented than last week and certainly less technical, but it’s still the same idea. It’s an email newsletter, which seem to be gaining a bit in popularity again.  In this case, it’s a curated email, sent weekly, filled with content that the site owners claim will broaden your perspective called The Lunch Read.  I don’t know about that, but it does have videos, articles and music that you might not have heard yet, all sent to you, regularly.  You can read more about it at About: The Lunch Read.  And, if you’re not quite sold yet, even though it’s free, you can see recent past newsletters they’ve sent out at The Lunch Read Leftovers.  Judging from that content, it’s not a bad newsletter.

Besides, it’s Friday, and if  you’re reading this, you’re not working anyway.  Might as well sign up and see what it’s all about!

What gives?

Why is it okay to interrupt my lunch?

For pity’s sake, I’m a contractor. I’m on a clock. My lunch hour is my own time. And, yet, people seem okay with completely trodding all over that and shoving work on me durning my time. Why is that?
Yesterday, it was someone who insisted on talking to me about nothing after obviously interrupting my lunchtime reading. Well, not quite nothing, but something that sure wasn’t as important as my personal time!
Today, someone wanted a file restored, but had to stand and watch me select the damn thing. He couldn’t have sent me an e-mail with the file path. Or, actually put in a ticket in the Helpdesk app. Oh, no! That would require effort on their part. And, a certain amount of consideration for their co-workers, so that just won’t do.

Ah, well, I guess I’ll just have to start leaving the building at lunch, now that the weather has gotten better.

Hungry Enough To Eat A Tire

The moon is a First Quarter Moon

Well, after putting it off for far, far too long, I got new tires for my wife’s car.

A couple of months ago, I rubbed her tire against a concrete post and it’s been slowly leaking ever since. I’d stop every couple of days and top it off when I got gas, but this weekend it got worse. I ran out Saturday to pick up some beer from the store to go with our oh, so romantic pizza and the tire was almost flat. So, I stopped and topped it off. Then, Monday morning it was the same thing again! So, finally, I got the message and my wife and I took the car out to get five new tires, which we badly needed. Not only had that one tire been almost flat, but we’d been driving on the spare. Well, in any case, it’s done now.

But, last night I was so tired that I didn’t make a “backup” lunch for my “lunch meeting” today, and *ka-pow*, no lunch. I don’t know what happened but no one seemed to have any lunches at this meeting. So, I ate a couple of PowerBars and the like and begged my wife via e-mail to make something yummy and filling for dinner. I’ll let you all know tomorrow if she did.
